Eligibility for NISSQ care and support
The NIISQ (National Injury Insurance Scheme of Queensland) provides funding and lifetime support to individuals who have sustained eligible serious personal injuries in motor vehicle accidents in Queensland on or after 1 July 2016.
The “no-fault” scheme is specifically designed to assist individuals with long-term, catastrophic injuries by ensuring they receive comprehensive support throughout their lives. It operates separately from the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance scheme and focuses on providing tailored care and funding for those with severe injuries.
Anyone who sustains a serious personal injury in a motor vehicle accident in Queensland may be eligible to receive necessary and reasonable lifetime treatment, care, and support through the NIISQ.
A serious personal injury includes:
- Permanent spinal cord injuries.
- Permanent injury to the brachial plexus.
- Traumatic brain injuries.
- Severe burns.
- Multiple or high-level limb amputations.
- Permanent blindness caused by trauma.
