A new name, the same commitment to you. Southern Cross Support Services and Programmed Care are now Kanda.

Short-Term Restorative Care

The Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) program is designed to help you recover from injury or illness while supporting your independence. This program focuses on reversing or slowing difficulties with everyday tasks, helping you stay out of hospital or avoid early entry into residential aged care.

Regain independence with short-term restorative care

This program puts you in charge of your recovery. You can receive STRC for periods of up to eight weeks, twice in a 12 month period. Your goals become our focus as we connect you with a team of health professionals to work together and help you feel like yourself again.

If you want to return to earlier levels of independence, STRC could be the right option for you. It’s also a great way to delay the need for long-term care and support services.

Do I qualify?

You may qualify for STRC if:

  • You are at least 65 years old.
  • You are not currently on a Home Care Package.
  • You have not been hospitalised in the last three months.
  • You have not received Transition Care in the last six months.
  • You are not living in an aged care facility

To access STRC, an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) will assess your needs to determine your eligibility for support to live independently. We can assist you in arranging this assessment through My Aged Care.

How to Apply

The application process can be overwhelming, but our dedicated Care Consultant is here to help. We’ll guide you through every step of the process, ensuring you feel supported.

Alternatively, you, your family member, or your GP can submit a referral through the My Aged Care website.

What Does Short-Term Restorative Care Look Like?

The STRC program is tailored to meet your particular needs and goals. For some, it may involve activities and exercises to improve strength and balance. For others, it might include:

  • Accessing mobility aids.
  • Working with a dietitian to prepare nutritious meals.
  • Installing minor home modifications, such as bathroom rails.
