An Engaging Two-Day Retreat
What an awesome two days we had on October 22-23 in 2024! The Sanctuary Core Team came together for an engaging retreat focused on communication and conflict, led by Kate Martin from The MacKillop Institute. The sessions dove into the essential principles of the Sanctuary Model—a trauma-informed model of care—exploring effective communication strategies, conflict resolution, the dynamics of power, and aligning supervision with Sanctuary principles.
Regrouping and Strategic Planning
During the retreat, we also had a valuable regrouping and planning session. Together, we established a timeline for implementing the Sanctuary Model within Kand (formerly Southern Cross Support Services), Children, Youth & Family Services (CYF). This strategic planning sets the stage for a smooth integration and lasting impact.
Celebrating Dedication
A standout moment of the retreat was celebrating our Regional Manager, Diana Russell, who received her five-year service award. Congratulations to Diana for her unwavering dedication and support for our young people—she truly embodies our mission.
Looking Ahead: Training and Implementation
We’re thrilled to see our Regional Managers joining the Sanctuary Core Team. An exciting plan is underway to roll out Sanctuary Day 1 training to Case Managers and Team Leaders by December 2024. Additionally, our new Trauma Theory training is now available to all CYF employees, Southern Cross Family Day Care, and the Sanctuary Core Team. This training covers critical topics such as collective disturbance, parallel process, vicarious trauma, and attachment theory.
Mid-Implementation Review
Throughout Thursday and Friday, we worked closely with Cameron Burgess (National Director, Sanctuary) and Kate Martin (Sanctuary Consultant) on a mid-implementation review. This review is a key step in our ongoing progress as we prepare for certification in 2025.
